James J. Pickens is a Violinist and Guitarist based in Houston TX. He is currently studying at the University of Houston pursuing a Bachelor of the Arts in Music with a focus on Violin Performance and Interdisciplinary Art. With interests in both classical and contemporary genres, James explores the intersection between the two. In addition to playing in traditional ensembles (Orchestras, Quartets, etc..), James maintains an interdisciplinary practice where he presents narrative films that are explored through live performances of his original music and collaborations. Such works have been presented at institutions including: The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Blaffer Art Museum, and Project Row Houses/the Eldorado Ballroom. James can also be found gigging at various venues in the Houston area performing with groups that span from Punk Rock to Jazz and Pop. He also teaches Violin, Guitar and Piano within the Houston area.
